Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Dreams of Greek Retirement
After solidifying his future with the Milwaukee Bucks, All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo shared an intriguing career goal during a recent Greek television appearance. In an interview with ANT1's The 2night Show, the two-time MVP expressed his desire to conclude his professional basketball journey in his homeland, Greece.
Antetokounmpo, who is under contract with the Bucks for the 2026-27 season, envisions a return to his roots. He stated, 'I'd like to end my career in a Greek team, why not?' The 30-year-old, who can play in the NBA until his late 30s, is considering a unique path. He added, 'I don’t want to live in the United States. As soon as I leave the NBA, I want to return to Greece.'
The Greek superstar, known for his versatility, mentioned several Greek clubs he'd be open to joining. 'I could end my career here,' he said, referring to teams like Filathlitikos, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, or Aris. This sentiment reflects his deep connection to his cultural heritage.
Antetokounmpo's basketball journey began in Greece, where he played for Filathlitikos in the Greek B league for two seasons before being drafted into the NBA. His success in the NBA, including nine All-Star selections and seven first-team All-NBA honors, has been remarkable. He was voted MVP in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons and was named NBA Finals MVP in 2021 when the Bucks won the championship.
With an impressive average of 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals, 1.2 blocks, and 32.9 minutes in 859 regular-season games, Antetokounmpo's impact is undeniable. His playoff performance was equally impressive, averaging 27.0 points, 12.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 1.0 steals in 36.2 minutes across 84 playoff games.
Adding to the family legacy, the Bucks are signing Antetokounmpo's brother, Alex, to a two-way contract, making it the first time in NBA history that three siblings will be on the same active roster. This development further highlights the Antetokounmpo family's significant impact on the NBA.
